August 23, 2002 Humphrey Nebraska Supercell

I had no plans of chasing this day and did not look at one single ob or model. I got off work at 5:30, turned on the computer and saw the severe watch for ne to sc NE. I then looked at a radar image from Hastings and saw this nice looking supercell sw of Norfolk. It was about 1 and 1/2 hrs drive so I gave it a shot.

This is west of Humphrey at about 7:50 looking nw. Vid captures suck. You can see the wet/cold rfd to the sw(left) and the inflow band stretching east(right of pic).

That small inflow tail to the right of pic was screaming up into the storm while the RFD is very apparent here to the left. Had it produced any tornadoes they most definitely would have been very hard to see from here.

Cold grungy rfd/outflow pushing east. Very amazing sky with the sun hitting it.

This sky made the chase worth it. That inflow tail can just barely be made out, just to the left of the rainbow. Pretty good sinking motions on the left side of pic. These colors aren't altered nor is the brightness and contrast...that is what it looked like...maybe a bit more gold than on here.
