October 7, 2006 Harvest Moon

Went out and tried the harvest moon another night, this time it was just me and my sister.  It actually rose a good distance left of where it had the night before.  This day had more wind and the moon rose 30 minutes later.  It was much more orange in color as it came up.  We again didn't see it right when it rose as it was behind some trees and not where we thought it'd be when compared to the night before.

Big orange full moon.

As it gets further from the horizon it begins to shift away from that orange color and towards the more white look.

We again really didn't have the clouds I was hoping for, but the cirrus was much better than the night before.

I begin farting around about this point.  I'm now using my canon 17-40L for more wide angle shots.

Yup, self-entertainment in full swing.

Ok, maybe one can go too far.  So it is clear, these were done using a flashlight and not something done in photoshop.  Doing this was a little harder than it looks.  You have to start it in the frame and make it large enough and do it quick enough, but yet not too fast.  You also have to write backwards.  You have to cap off the flashlight when you jump to new spots.  The hardest parts were ending or starting in locations to match up right as well as moving the light the second you let the end/light show so that it doesn't burn a spot.

SDS stands for "storm deprivation syndrome" and I felt it fit here.  The first time I did this one both S's were backward.  I give myself a 10 for my starts and stops as I didn't leave any burn areas from not moving the flashlight as soon as I let the light show.  I probably get a 6 for ending my D where I started it though.

90 second exposure of the cirrus.  My star trails aren't very straight thanks to the fairly strong winds.

:) That takes some talent I tell ya.

This is my sister's work.  Very nice kitty!  Most of these are bigger than they look.  The word ones are probably about 20 feet wide.  It could be a loooooong winter at this rate.
