October 8, 2006 The Scary Pumpkin
|
My uncle, my sister, her two kids and I had another photo outting tonight. We never tried to do it in a story form, but looking at it now I think we should have. I will try with what I have. So, my uncle, my sister, her two kids, and myself head out to this old building in the woods. We were going there to prepare it for the haunted woods show(part of the story!). I was rather shocked when this pumpkin appears in the window! SHOCKED I tell ya. It was scarrrrrry.

Well I really needed to get in there and work so I moved closer. What does the pumpkin do? Continues smiling! It's as if he was waiting for me. What would he do once I was in there? Anything? I most likely didn't want to know, but I was about to find out. I had several minutes to think about this(note the darkness differences in some of the pictures lol). During the 30 minute, 5 foot journey to the doorway here, I thought, maybe I should send one of the kids in. I mean c'mon, it is getting pretty darn scary and I knew I could easily force one of them in there if I had to. BUT, I think to myself, I have morals. I can't send(ok so I said force) a kid in!

So I back off and send my uncle in! As he makes his move the scary pumpkin transports himself so that he's blocking the door! Can you believe that? Scary! It almost looks like my uncle is smiling...he's that scared here. When you face death the best thing to do is smile. It's kind of odd that my uncle is illuminated here. Oh yeah, I was highlighting him with my flashlight! The scary pumpkin needed to know exactly who the threat was here, sooooooo...I had to. As he gets closer to the pumpkin I offer some words of encouragement. I let him know it was just a pumpkin and that someone might have his back. As I turn around to look for those individuals I notice they have already fled the scene. Smart!

While I would have loved to have someone else here with me, I was kind of glad the kids didn't have to see this. It got ugly fast as the scary pumpkin eats my uncle head first. Scary! I tried to help, I really did. I yelled to the pumpkin, "Stop!.....unless you really don't want to." Part of me was thinking my uncle really wanted to give this a shot by himself yet and would just be upset if I joined in. So I started walking backwards, giving him some room.

After finishing off my uncle the scary pumpkin stops long enough to tell me that 2007 will be worse for storms than 2006. I quickly thought, well that is odd, eat my uncle then tell me this news. The way it got strange I briefly notice it seemed like something that would happen in a dream. Then in an abrupt flash of light it flies out the door. I fall to the ground, crying, "worse than 2006?" After crying myself to sleep out there I wake up and wonder if it was all just a dream. No one was around and I was evidently ok. Hummm I thought.

I run to the hill in hopes I'd find the scary pumpkin. I see the orange moon out there and wonder, is that really a moon?
|
|
I venture down to the river and still, no signs of the scary pumpkin...just this moon. "Worse than 2006 for storms" kept running through my mind.

I drive to Iowa...no scary pumpkin. After driving well into Iowa I give up. Evidently there never was any scary pumpkin. It was just a dream. Phew.
